A Jordanian doctor breaks the male hegemony in the bone specialty

The Society and Conference President, Dr. Wael Al-Azazi, honored Dr. Alaa Abu Hijleh as the first female doctor specializing in orthopedics in the Kingdom, during the honoring ceremony which was held by the supporters and companies sponsoring the conference and Jordanian, Arab and foreign lecturers.

Dr. Al-Azazi welcomed the doctor, Abu Hijleh, wishing her success and success, considering that entering this specialty is a qualitative addition to the association and the medical sector.

He said that the association includes among its parts Jordanian orthopedic surgeons from various medical sectors in the Kingdom and provides services to all these sectors in order to achieve the goals that were established for them, and the association seeks to raise the level of doctors like the developed countries in this field.

Dr. Al-Azazi added that the recent years have witnessed a significant increase in the number of orthopedics, especially recent graduates, as the number of doctors in the association did not exceed 150 before less than ten years, while the number is now close to four hundred, which places new burdens on the administrative bodies for To provide opportunities for these doctors in order to obtain the possibilities of gaining practical experiences, which calls us to extend our hands to all colleagues locally, regionally and globally to provide opportunities for these doctors.

He pointed out that the association seeks to keep pace with the development in orthopedics globally, as the practice of orthopedics branched out into various sub-specialties, so the orthopedic surgeon who practices orthopedic surgery for children is not able to practice spine surgery.

Dr. Al-Azazi pointed out that the association has started forming specialized sub-groups, such as the Sports Medicine Group, the Hand Surgery Group, and the Pediatric Orthopedic Group, among others, and that other groups such as joint implants and tumors will see the light soon.

In turn, the chairman of the scientific committee of the conference, Dr. Firas Al-Daboubi, said that during the conference, surgical and complex operations were presented directly from the operating rooms to the lecture hall, whose duration ranged between 4_8 hours, during which the spine of a woman and a young man was corrected, and during the conference activities, several cases suffered from Congenital anomalies of the spine.
